Women’s health is medical care specific to the female patient. While routine primary care covers many women’s health issues, there are many medical conditions that are unique to the female patient.
What medical services are unique to the female patient?
The female patient will require a variety of medical services in addition to typical primary care services based on their age. See below for women’s health services relevant to different age ranges.
Under 21-year-old, including:
- Birth control counseling
- Menstrual cycle disorders evaluation and management
- STI counseling
Women over 21-years-old, including:
- Birth control counseling
- Menstrual cycle disorder evaluation and management
- STI counseling
- Cervical cancer screening (pap smear)
- Pre-natal counseling
- Mammograms (starting at age 40 or if any concerns for breast cancer arise)
- Evaluation and management of breast disorders such as masses, nipple discharge, discoloration of breast, and breast tenderness
- Hormonal evaluation
Women over 50 (post-menopausal), including:
- Birth control counseling
- Menstrual cycle disorder evaluation and management
- STI counseling
- Cervical cancer screening (pap smear)
- Pre-natal counseling
- Mammograms (starting at age 40 or if any concerns for breast cancer arise)
- Evaluation and management of breast disorders such as masses, nipple discharge, discoloration of breast,
and breast tenderness - Hormonal evaluation
- Counseling on symptoms of menopause (hot flashes, mood swings, etc)
- Evaluation for hormonal therapy
- Osteoporosis screening and treatment if necessary
- Evaluation and treatment of urinary incontinence
